When I first heard about the fifteen page research paper I was a bit scared. I didn’t think I had anything worth fifteen pages to write about. Then as I begin to think about my friends and family I noticed that most of my friends’ sexual orientation change within the last year. What was also interesting was that all of these women had children (pg3). I thought this would be interesting topic and I was anxious to start the data collecting process.
I decide if I wanted to write and great research paper. I needed to read more articles based on my subject. This is when I began to look for authors or journals that related to my topic. The fact that there wasn’t much to choose from discourage me a time, but also motivated me to find more information.
When I began this research I couldn’t understand why most of my friends decide to start dating women (pg3-4). It became extremely vital to me to get a better understanding of their reasoning. While researching I came across a definition for “sexuality” (pg8) which put everything into a different light for me. At that moment I understood that some people determine sexuality different that others do.
When I finished my first draft I didn’t care for it that much (pg3). I felt as thought it was all over the place with ideas and quotes. Although I did get my point across to me, I didn’t think it made much sense to others. I had a hard time with the MLA formatting and getting my works cited together (pg4). The literature review was also difficult; because I wanted to make sure it flowed well and made sense (pg7-8).
To me all the peer reviews were helpful and gave me great advice (pg5). This gave me a chance to see other students’ papers and ideas. Even though we had to do four peer reviews, Dan Koller was the most helpful to me. I could tell Dan had read every last word of my paper because he gave me vital input and great advice.
After the revision I knew I had to add some more reliable sources to back up my research and to make it better. I also had to revisit my MLA formatting again because my works cited were incorrect (pg21).
I think my final essay best shows my ability in my method section (pg 10-12). I think this is where the paper gets interesting and it shows that I’m capable of getting the results to my hypothesis.
I think my ability to create movement was shown in my results section (pg12-16) the best. I took all the questions from the “Are You a Lesbian?” questionnaire (pg 12) that I created. I then turned the question into an interview which allowed me to observe and get some great results in the end.
In my essay I really tried to incorporate my sources as much as possible. I don’t think I did the best job but I did ok. I did however get some great quotes for different authors (pg 6&7) and definitions (pg 8&16).
The style of documentation I used was MLA formatting (pg 22). I think I did and alright job with the MLA formatting. I had to prove to myself that I could accomplish MLA formatting, which actually turned out to be easier than APA. Although I did have to refer back to my writers reference book a few times for help.
